Little Bears was founded out of pure love. In 1987, Cindy Cromwell set out to create a place where children could feel cherished while they learned and explored. She wanted parents to head to work with complete peace of mind, knowing their child was being cared for with the same tenderness they’d receive at Grandma’s house — all while gaining the educational foundation they deserved.
Growing up on a farm just down the road, Cindy developed a deep appreciation for nature. She dreamed of sharing that wonder with children, which led her to purchase a large tract of land and begin what would become Little Bears. What started as a small, remodeled farmhouse has, over the past 25 years, grown into five buildings, each thoughtfully designed for a specific age group. Through every change, one thing has remained constant: a steadfast love for children and learning.
Today, Little Bears is woven into the fabric of Bartlett. Many of our current Little Bears have parents who once toddled through these same halls. They still remember the familiar faces of staff members who have loved and guided generations of children. Our graduates have gone on to become teachers, nurses, firemen, lawyers, police officers, doctors — even a major league baseball. They often stop by or send a note to reminisce about "the good ole days,” and many are delighted to find their childhood photo still hanging on Mrs. Cindy’s wall.
What began as one woman’s labor of love has grown into a big family of families, each generation caring for the next. At Little Bears, the road truly starts here — and it leads to a lifetime of learning, belonging, and joyful memories.
Each child is considered an educator in themselves by bringing their prior knowledge to the classroom to which they are encouraged to expand upon their understanding of different concepts.
